Full Day Workshops
Hand Quilting
Hand Quilting For All
This workshop has been designed primarily with beginners in mind. Come and
learn the basics of hand quilting whilst making an elegant cushion. Basic
quilting design, choice of threads and wadding will also be covered during
this class.
Experienced quilters can try their hand at designing a cot quilt whilst the
beginners sew.
(This can be offered as a half-day class by purchasing ready to sew calico
cushion tops at a cost of £6.00 per head.)
Can also be expanded to a 2 or 3 day workshop
Corded Hand Quilting
Come and enjoy cording, stuffing and stippling whilst making a small
Provencal-style wall hanging. To save time, the top fabric ready marked with
the design may be purchased at the class at a cost of £3.50 each. For lovers of hand quilting only!
Shadow Quilting
This little used trapunto technique is both simple and effective, adding both
texture and subtle colours to your quilting patterns,

North Country Quilts
Explore the traditional designs used in Durham wholecloth quilts. Use these
to create your own original design or stitch a traditional cushion from
patterns provided.
Can be expanded to a 2 or 3 day workshop
Glorious Welsh Quilts
Spend a day exploring Welsh quilting motifs. Use them to design an original
quilt or wallhanging or stitch a traditional cushion from patterns provided.

Hand Appliqué
Whig Rose
One of the favourite appliqué blocks of traditional nineteenth century
American quilts. Learn the tricks of fine hand whilst exploring the
various interpretations of this beautiful design. Choice of fabrics and use of
colour will also be covered in this class, which is suitable for all levels.
Rose of Sharon
This traditional pattern appears in many American quilts both old and new. Come and explore
the possibilities of this attractive and extremely versatile design whilst
learning all the tips to fine hand appliqué.
1860's Flower Pot
An unusual 24" block featuring a pot of flowers taken from an antique quilt
c1860. In this class you will learn how to hand appliqué
using freezer paper and discover the tricks to creating perfect stems and
berries.
1 Baltimore Basics
This class will explore the traditional Baltimore Album blocks based on the
shape of a cross. There will be patterns of varying degrees of difficulty to
choose from, ranging from simple leaves to the use of 3-dimensional flowers.
Help will be given in class on your choice of fabrics.
2 Wreaths and Roses
This class will concentrate on the different styles of wreath in Baltimore
quilts. There will be a choice of several patterns ranging from simple to
complex in which to use a variety of appliqué roses, buds and
three-dimensional flowers. Help will be given in class on your choice of
fabrics.
3 Bouquet and Basket
Learn how to weave a simple basket. Arrange flowers in a pot or make an
elegant bouquet, the choice is yours!
4 Birds and Blooms
From simple to challenging, an assortment of Baltimore-style blocks
featuring birds.
5 The Seasons
A selection of wreath blocks some modern some traditional representing the different seasons. Complete
four to make a wallhanging or incorporate them into your Album quilt.
6 Crown of Ribbon Roses
Three dimensional flowers were very popular in Album quilts. This class
will cover a variety of techniques to create spectacular blooms using fabric,
ribbon and wire ribbon (the latter will be available in class at a cost
£1.20/m).
7 Baltimore Borders
Use the patterns provided or design your own. Ideas on how to lay out
blocks to best effect will be given and how to customise a border to match a
quilt. The designs may also be used to create a charming wallhanging.

A selection from a basket and three vase designs taken from actual Baltimore
quilts.
Beautiful Baltimore Wreaths
Choose between an anchor wreath, a bible wreath and other unusual wreath
designs taken from actual Baltimore quilts.
3-Day workshops
Hand Quilting
We will cover different types of wholecloth quilts, aspects of
design and the technique of hand quilting. It is anticipated that a cot-size
quilt or wallhanging will be designed, marked up and the quilting started.
This class can be extended to up to five days to allow for more quilting time.
Strippy Quilts
Explore the many possibilities of strippy quilts and start one of your own,
any size you like! This class may also run for two days, but there will
obviously be less stitching time!
Baltimore Medallion
Start the centrepiece for a Baltimore Album quilt, or make a magnificent
wallhanging. A variety of appliqué techniques will be covered as well as
ribbon work and three-dimensional flowers.

or, by preference, apex train fare depending on distances involved.
My maximum number of students is 16. I will take up to 20 students at a
surcharge of £5 per head.
